Back pain relief may be just a soak away

Ouch! Few things can sideline you faster than a back injury. In fact, back pain is so common more than 80 percent of people miss work or need some type of work accommodation due to back pain or a back injury at some point in their careers. Not only is it inconvenient and costly - it hurts!Physicians and therapists will tell you, one of the keys to recovery is to treat your back injury quickly and properly, and to reduce your discomfort so you can get back to your normal routine. Having your own hot tub can really help!

Reduce Swelling First

But, tempting as it may be, you don’t want to jump right in after a back injury. In those first 24-48 hours, it’s important you use ice to reduce the swelling of the affected area, and rest. During this time period, heat is not your friend.

Hydrotherapy Treatment Next

Once this initial period passes, in consultation with your doctor, you’ll begin your recovery process that might include special exercises, massage, and hyrdotherapy. In fact, hydrotherapy, like you’ll find with the powerful jets in the Clarity Spas series, or the specialized seating arrangements and targeted zones in the Legend Series, is unmatched in the benefits it offers people recovering from conditions like back pain. Not only will you be able to use your hot tub for hydrotherapy - you can use the natural buoyancy of the water to help you gently stretch and exercise without placing undue stress on your joints and muscles. It can help you regain your range of motion, and get back to the way of life you enjoy more quickly.

A few things to remember:

  • ALWAYS talk to your doctor before beginning any exercise or treatment program. Let him or her be your guide.
  • If you’re given the all-clear to use your hot tub, make certain you have a clear path so there’s nothing to trip over, and easy-to-use steps with a guardrail, so you can enter and exit safely.
  • Be certain your hot tub cover is lightweight and easy to remove. If it’s not, have a new cover and a cover lifter installed, so you don’t re-injure your back while you’re taking steps to heal it.
